This weekend we had a great experience with 3 Danish wild boar hunters, hardworking chef Mikkel Karstad and photographer Anders Schonnemann.
The hunters where out early morning and late night waiting for the boars. They all went looking for truffles with our truffle hunter and his dogs and found a nice handful of fresh truffles. Mikkel and Anders collected wild cicoria and herbs with signora Mara from the village and they made a gorgeous dinner together.
Saturday Mikkel grilled the meat from the wild boar the hunters had shot the day before and we all had lunch together in the garden under the trees. It was fascinating to see how everyone collaborated to make it all work out perfect. Anders made stunning photos of the whole event and we all fell in love with Montegiove all over again just looking at his photos.
A great weekend with lots of wine, fun and inspiration.
Umbria has always been dedicated to agriculture, animal husbandry and food, outshining at the national level in the quality and typicality of earth products. Agriumbria is the main trade fair exhibition of this productive sector and gathers exhibitors from all over Italy.
The traditionally cattle market is impressive with all the enormously big bulls and clean and combed sheep and goats and other exhibition spaces with technological solutions to suit every type of farm.
We always return from the fair with catalogs for way too big but very cool tractors, funny plants, seeds for unusual vegetables and exotic herbs, sometimes chickens or ducklings and some years ago even a peacock couple (I will write about that adventure in another blog post). This year we managed to leave Agriumbria without new livestock in the car but with only a blueberry bush and some very small succulent plants.
Finally time for the annual Christmas Market at Castello di Montegiove.
Every year I am bringing a bit of my Scandinavian Christmas to Montegiove when we are organizing the Christmas Market the first Sunday in December. Our family Christmas begins with preparing for the market, we decorate the castle with wreaths, festoons, string lights, Christmas threes and so much more – just can’t get enough.
We always combine the market with wine tasting of our wines and the delicious porchetta from our local porchetta producer. This year we have more than 15 different stands selling all kind of Christmas related products and it looks like even Santa Claus will be here.
Just can’t wait to the 4th of December!!
